1ST STOP: SANDY HILLS
2nd Stop: Canooche River
"BLACK RIVER"
The Canooche River is called the "Black River" because of the Tonic Acids. The great acidity erodes away at he vegetation and turns the river a tarnished color. Although the Canooche River is black and acidic, it is the largest tributary to the Chattahoochee River.
This Spanish Moss growing on this Oak Tree has to be one of my ultimate favorites of this Community. I think that if you drape Spanish Moss on any tree it would look soft and elegant! Love this Tree!
3rd Stop: Longleaf Pine and Wiregrass Community
I cant believe that I have lived here for soo many years and never noticed the beauty of this place. So many days I have come out to these same lands with my father and did not appreciate what I was looking at until now. Ignorance is not BLISS! If I would have known what I know now I wouldn't have refused to go fishing and hiking with my Dad so many times! Well hey I'm a girly girl but I have been exposed now and I can vividly see what a naturalist would see in this beauty called NATURE! :)
Fire is a notable asset to the community to open up the canopy and to keep the diversity in the vegetation. These fires could not occur if it was not for a plant called WIREGRASS. Wiregrass is said to be the fuel to the fire allowing it to spread across many acres for the good of the land.
